Ashtanga Yoga can be practiced by anyone. Students of all ages and levels are encouraged to join straight into Mysore style classes, where each student does his or her own personal practice. Students are guided individually by the teacher in a small group setting. In this way, each student will progress in their practice at their individual pace. New students become gradually confident and independent in their personal practice and are able to have a self-practice at home and carry the practice anywhere they go. Mysore style is a simple, effective and ancient method of learning yoga. A beginner can expect their first class to last about 30 minutes. The practice will gradually increase in length up to an hour and a half or maximum two hours.
I started my daily Ashtanga Yoga practice in 2007 and made my first trip to Mysore and the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in 2009. Since then I have travelled to Mysore every year for 2 to 6 months to practice at the KPJAYI with Sharath Jois. I am a dedicated student of Sharath and received the Level II Authorization from him in 2012. I started teaching in 2011, first by assisting Anand Zorzo in the Canary Islands. Since then I have been teaching in Finland, Spain and India. This practice has been life-changing for me, and I wish to transmit the teachings of this tradition in the same manner as I have learned from Sharath Jois.
”Don’t run behind yoga. Yoga is within you.” –Sharath Jois
